Bad - scanner could not be identified!

At least you can try and set SPP mode in your BIOS!!!

Here is the problem!
data and status should never return the same value if a connected
device that can be handled by the driver is connected...

Good questions! 
Have you attached any other devices behind the scanner? - remove them!
Is lp.o loadad? - remove it!
Is the IEEE1248 stuff enabled in your kernel configuration? remove it!

As also stated in the FAQ on the URL you've sent us, there are might be
problems with theses scanners if there's any other bidirectional communication
on the port...
