Hi Pieter,

that all doesn't look that bad. First of all try the parameter mov=2
(see INSTALL file or man sane-plustek how to apply), this
should solve the colour problem.
The "banded" image problem is well known but unfortuneably not
solved. The problem is, that these old style scanners does not have
a large fifo. The fifo is needed to buffer data that can't be read
immediately, this is the case in multitasking systems like Linux.
In their former Windows drivers, Plustek simply disables the 
multitasking stuff while scanning, but I think this not what
we want on Linux. I'm working on that problem and maybe sometime
I'll find a way. Tests have been shown, that if you're machine
has enough memory and you do nothing while scanning, the banding
effect almost disappears...
The colour32 mode has been disabled in the current backend, because
I couldn't get it work. 
Have you tested the EPP mode of your BIOS (should be faster)?
