Hi Gerhard,
thanks for your help. I think, I forgot to check dll.conf.
But now I solved the problem very simple. The driver was okay (and still is). I just got sane 1.0.3 as RPM from Mandrake-devel FTP (Version 7.2beta) and installed it. And voila it worked, I just had to get a newer version of another library (from the same hompage).

For the problem (perhaps for an FAQ): 
- For not finding the libraries running ldconfig helped
- I ran depmod -a so pt_drv.o is found and started correctly
- dll.conf should be checked (I think that was the problem)

Now everything is running even Scanning into GIMP (Mandrake 7.1 had a GIMP 1.0.x. I just had to get a newer version 1.1.x)

Again thanks a lot to everybody
