Hi Jack,

the problem is, that the scanner isn't recognized.
Please try and set your BIOS to EPP mode or to SPP.
While watching the output of your Linux, I detected that
it is currently set to ECP - this causes some trouble.

The scanner detection will continue, if the line
"Compare data=0xff and status=0xff"
show two different values...

Please change the BIOS settings..
