More details would help, I bet (scanner model, build with DEBUG enabled,
dump relevant bits from /var/log/messages, indicate whether you really
have parallel support loaded as modules or compiled into the kernel....).
I had a problem recently that was resolved by recompiling the kernel with
the IEEE parallel port auto-detection support disabled. This was on a
RedHat 7.1 box. Give it a try-- there are good docs at RedHat here:
