Gerhard,

Thanks for the advice.

I'm afraid I couldn't get the thing to work even following your advice.

My conf.modules file looks like :
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
pre-install plip modprobe parport_pc ; echo 7 > /proc/parport/0/irq
pre-install pcmcia_core /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start
alias char-major-40 pt_drv
post-install pt_drv modprobe -k parport
options pt_drv lampoff=180 warmup=15 port=0x378

lsmod tells me:

[root@localhost /root]# lsmod
Module Size Used by
parport_pc 7604 1 (autoclean)
pt_drv 84428 0 (unused)
parport 8084 1 [parport_pc pt_drv]
sound 64184 0 (autoclean) (unused)
soundcore 3524 3 (autoclean) [sound]
soundlow 300 0 (autoclean) [sound]
ppp 21036 2 (autoclean)
slhc 4392 1 (autoclean) [ppp]
supermount 14880 2 (autoclean)
nls_iso8859-1 2052 1 (autoclean)
nls_cp437 3580 1 (autoclean)
vfat 11004 1 (autoclean)
fat 32640 1 (autoclean) [vfat]

I eventually ended up with
device '1' is a Noname PNM file reader virtual device
device '2' is a Noname PNM file reader virtual device

So after getting slightly frustrated and following mailing list hints, I
deleted everything and started again using Sane 1.0.1 instead of 1.0.2.
Now everything compiles and loads first time (but the lamp doesn't light)
but when I type scanimage -L, I see:

scanimage: error in loading shared libraries: libsane.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

I'm sorry for being such a dumboid, but where is this library supposed to
be? I tried 'find'ing it and it doesn't appear to exist anywhere in my
directory tree..

Mike
