Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it has not worked. Any other
thoughts? It seems odd to me that cat /proc/bus/usb/devices can find the
scanner and sane-find-scanner cannot. I did read somewhere that "IEEE
248 support in kernel 2.4.x may stop a scanner being recognised, and it
should be disabled". Does this make more sense to you than to me?
