Generally speaking (and I'm not sure where you are finding the
plustek.5 thing), you will need the sources. First unpack
sane-backends-1.0.6, and then if that doesn't support your
scanner and you think the plustek additions may help, then unpack
it, and simply copy (I use mc for this) everything from the
plustek package right over the top of the same file or directory
in the sane-backends tree.
Then its the usual ./configure && make && make install routine.
Sane-frontends and xsane should be ok right from the rpm.
It would be helpfull if the model of your scanner was known to
this group, and what kernel you were runing on what architecture.
usb stuff in particular needs at least a 2.4.17 kernel.
