Flash!, for the 1250U, I've moved the left origin (first data in
the cap file) in by 22, and the top in by 164 (was 168), so it
starts at the edge of the paper now for me, but I'd assume
tolerances might need a fudge factor thrown into that for the
next one off the production line. A 25,170 setting would
probably work for all but the super-precise folks.

Setting the scannerorder or whatever thats called to rgb instead
of bgr took care of 99% of the miss-registration. Any
mis-registration left is now more vertically oriented & rather
hard to define at 600 dpi.

I've played with the focus from 4 to 12, but that seems to be
fairly broad, and I didn't notice much diff when dropping from 12
to Reinharts setting of 8 so I left it there. Thats looking at
600 dpi scans with its default viewer.

At 1200, the scanner moves very slowly, and sounds like its drive
waveforms are almost out of time and stripping a gear
occasionally, but without making all that much noise. I canceled
that one anyway as it would have been half an hour to get the
viewer loaded here over a 10baseT. I still don't have a monitor
on that machine, no room on the desk, so I'm doing all this over
an ssh connection from this (only 500 mhz) machine.

A 300 dpi scan sounds like a normal hum, and a 600 dpi is
virtually silent as it creeps along.

My shading problem is back too. And I think that may be reduced
by more lamp warmup time before doing the calibration phase.

Yes, this is a huge improvement. It's not quite there yet, but
good progress is being made, unforch not due to any great talent
on my part. )-: I really do appreciate the help.
