Also, does anybody know of a DIY programmer for the 16F876 which will do low voltage in circuit programming and ideally works with Linux? BTW, the link on gnupic.org to the gpsim sourceforge page is broken. -- ------- Alex Holden ------- http://www.linuxhacker.org/ http://www.robogeeks.org/

Alex, Although I haven't had the chance to try others, I've found the Dontronics DT001 programmer (http://www.dontronics.com/dt001.html) to be a great balance between DIY and purchased programmer. You buy a nice PCB from Dontronics and populate it with a few components and you have a Tait-style programmer. If you decide to take this route, you might want to pick up a DT106 that is perfect for the 28- and 40-pin 16F8XX parts. Although I'm not too familiar with the '876 (yet!), I'm using an '877 in the DT106 right now. As far as linux programmers go, I've been helping the development of jpp877 (http://www.kingdon5.freeserve.co.uk/jpp877/jpp877.html) and use Linux exclusively. This software runs under both Windows and Linux (written in Java). The Linux version currently uses /dev/port to access the parallel port; although I've almost finished a native library for linux too. I'm working on expanding the capability of the software to include support for lots of processors (12C509 is already working) and a host of other programmers (I've added an oscillator to the DT001 so that it works in a manner similar to the Prog84 programmer). While it will always support command-line operation, I hope to offer a GUI also. All this is GPL'ed open source. Try again, because sometimes Sorce Forge is unresponsive. What I found yesterday was that the page was blank when accessed via https:// but it worked when accessed via http://. It seems to work using either protocol now. Another thing I just noticed is that gnupic.org links to http://gpasm.sourceforge.net/ as the gpasm home page, which lists 0.8.10 as being the latest release. It also links to the "sourceforge project page" at https://sourceforge.net/projects/gpasm/ which lists 0.8.9 as the latest release. I didn't realise there was a release later than 0.8.10 until you announced 0.8.14 just now... -- ------- Alex Holden ------- http://www.linuxhacker.org/ http://www.robogeeks.org/
