Also what platform are you planning to use? Do you have any circuit building experience? With some more information we probably can help you find the right path. I want to be able write a program, burn it to a chip and using a keypad, navigate the app using an lcd. I know this is asking a lot, but I am prepared to take small steps in learning. I use object pascal(delphi 5) to develope apps. Once again, Thanks Dion. -----Original Message----- From: Byron A Jeff ####@####.#### Sent: Tuesday, January 15, 2002 8:35 PM To: Dion Cc: ####@####.#### Subject: Re: Beginner > > Hi, > > I am just starting out. I'm wondering, what PIC loader and compiler can you suggest? I haven't tried anything yet and seemed to be confused by all those available. I'm also somewhat new to PIC although I've already used one but only once and in windows using mplab and if I'm not mistaken, PICStart. Also, is this all I need to get started? (loader and compiler) Thank you in advance! Hope you can help me with my problem. _____________________________________________ Free email with personality! Its pretty common for many of us to use gputils as a assembler. Although you specifically stated compiler. There are commercial PIC C compilers out there which I choose not to go near. There are some other languages to write in if you do not wish to learn assembly. gpal is included with gputils for example. Some other folks claim they like writing in forth. As far as your question about a 'loader' I'll assume that you are asking about a software and hardware programmer. I personally use a PicStartPlus programmer from Microchip (hardware). Then I use picp as a software programmer. There are many other choices available for Linux. My site has links to the websites for many of the components mentioned. Yeah I know it sayas Mac OS/X all over it, but I tried this stuff out on Linux as well. http://screwdecaf.cx/tools On Wed, 11 Feb 2004, bige wrote: > good morning to everyone! My question is which writer/programmer suitable to program pic 18F series with Pikdev? Can I build at my home, or by it? Thanks.
