Yeah this is very true. I just installed FC5 and it asks me to download
more than 600MB of updates... Linux evolves really fast.

I agree that broadband is essential now.

I think Ubuntu 6.06 - Dapper Drake should be relased soon, right?

Xiaofan

Just thinking, Ubuntu is so dependant on repositories - I wonder
how well it would work on dialup....

6.06 would be June 2006 - soon,
but the prereleases seem to work acceptably well.

when installed, you need to do something like
'apt-get update'
'apt-get install synaptic'
then use synaptic to install gputils

maybe you have to edit /etc/apt/sources.list to allow universe too.

Xiaofan, someone needs to get a pp2 debian package together. Although
remembering how to type make is still useful.

regards, john

Sorry but what is pp2? Do you mean pk2? Last time Jeff Post mentioned that
the next version of pk2 should support more PICs and solve most bugs
and I think it is better to wait for that version.

piklab now supports PICkit 1 and PICkit 2 nicely. But I am not good at making
debian packages. Maybe I can learn though.

Xiaofan

yes, pk2
sorry - I had to go back to using my own programmer for the clock
project as the clock had LED displays, and pickit2 suffered supplying
the current.
my programmer was ok as long as I used a 16f628 - non - A

the next version will always be better.
Unless we can persuade Hamish to package pk2, one of us needs to learn this.
