Hi,

Since ####@####.#### does not exist (?), I write to the mailing list.

Hi,

last week I bought a Plustek OpticPro UT24 scanner, and I found the hompage
of the Plustek-sane-drivers. After compiling sane-backends with the plustek
snapshoot "plustek-sane-0_40_11.tar.gz" I found out that I need a newer
kernel, and so...
With the new kernel and "plustek-sane-0_40_11.tar.gz" the kernel worked
(everything worked as it did before), sane-find-scanner found the scanner,
but the scanner still didn't do anything.

Now I have linux kernel 2.4.16, sane-backends 1.0.6 and
"plustek-sane-0_40_12.tar.gz" all compiled and installed.
the scanner is found:

sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (vendor = 0x07b3, product = 0x0017) at
device /dev/usb/scanner0

but the system hung up when I called

scanimage -d plustek:/dev/usb/scanner0

Now I even can't boot the new kernel, since when I do so, linux hangs up when
the usb manager is started (douring boot).

Is this just the same as your experience with the testing, or should it work
with this version? (I am neighter experienced with sane nor with kernel
configuration) Haveyou some hints what I should look for ?

Since I have the hardware, a little spare time, and some interest in this
driver to work, I would like to help you with testing it.

here is what "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" says about the scanner, just in case
you need it:

E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=255ms
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=07b3 ProdID=0017 Rev= 1.00
S: Manufacturer=Plustek Inc.
S: Product=USB SCANNER
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=a0 MxPwr= 0mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=ff Driver=(none)

looking forward to hearing from you...

Hi,

go back to kernel 2.4.12, as this seems to be the last
known working kernel (concerning the usb-scanner stuff)
Or you might get an updated scanner driver from David Nelson
(I currently do not known the download address...)

This all should do the trick...
